Hit the ground running

Hola,

So it is 10:30 pm local time and we are exhausted! We made a mad dash from our flight in Frankfurt to our connecting flight and we made it! The flight to Madrid arrived a little later than scheduled but that was still ok.

We made it to our hotel by 2:00pm and got the kids into their rooms with about an hour to freshen up before looking for lunch. We left the hotel around 5:15 and walked across town to the Prado.
We spent an hour or two perusing the classical art of Velázquez, Goya, Greco and Sorolla, just to name a few.

Las meninas by Diego Velázquez de Silva is to the Prado, what the Mona Lisa is to the Louvre.
Widely considered to be the best work of art ever.

el Tres de Mayo by Francisco Goya

The kids were fading fast but we still had to cross back over to our hotel side of Madrid to have dinner at the Museo de Jamón, a typical EF restaurant. The kids enjoyed gazpacho, paella and a tasty ice cream dessert.

Tomorrow is a relatively easy day for us because we are not going on the Toledo excursion or the flamenco night, we get to enjoy a free afternoon and evening after dinner. Our plans are to do a little shopping and the relax in Parque de Buen Retiro, then a tapas dinner and the famous San Gines for churros con chocolate!

¡Hasta mañana!
